Blog 11- Interior Building Systems

Image
This week in Building Systems we learned about Interior Building Systems. There are several different systems that work within an interior that impacts its environment. While some of these are optional, others a re essential. There are data , voice and telecommunications systems , energy control systems, security systems, vertical systems, and how these systems furniture interfaces with the building.   The first type of systems are data, voice, and telecommunications, which are essential in man y commercial settings and are becoming increasingly popular in residential settings. These can include devices such as telephone lines, internet connections, wireless service, and routers. In commercial offices and other similar settings, they often have teleconferencing spaces. This allows communication to be made easier for those who cannot physically be present. Audio visual systems are primarily used in areas to watch television or scree n . While these have been ...

Blog 10- Indoor Environmental Quality

This week in Building Systems we talked about Indoor Environmental Quality: Acoustics and Indoor Air. Acoustics are how sound travels and is heard . Sound is measured in decibels, and noise is considered as bad or unwanted sound.   In the slides it showed a diagram showing how sound travels through space. 1 . through pass ages (doors connected by hallways) 2. Through materials (through walls) 3. Transmission with some absorption (the walls help quiet or muffle the sound) 4. Windows (sound from outdoor through openings that are le ss insulated) and 5. Structure borne sound (sound that comes from the building itself).   There are three main principles of Sound Control. NRC or noise reduction coefficient- are materials rated on their absorption c apacity . STC or sound transmission class is the capability of a material to absorb sound, and TL w hich is transmission loss.   RT or reverberation time is another word for echo, which is sound that is built up in a r...
